Welcome to BeholderBoard Chess

Instructions

BeholderBoard Chess is to be played by 2 players. Each player makes their move and then waits for the other player to move. This can be in 'almost' real time as moves are recorded immediately when a player hits update and will show to the other player when he/she refreshes/reloads browser or hits update on his screen. Thus, you can play at the same time or play correspondence type over a period of time. We understand that you may want to check out the game by playing both sides. Maybe you want to practice and don't have a board handy. We don't mind have fun. All we ask is that you e-mail us so we can reset the board for someone else to play. THANKS.

VERY IMPORTANT

As BeholderBoard  will not detect CHECKMATE or STALEMATE you must notify us that the game has terminated so we can reset the board. Also, we must be notified if you plan on having a long-term game where moves may take days between them. Normally, if we notice a game where more than 24 hours have gone by without a move we may reset the board believing that no one is really playing. E-MAIL CHESS@ATTHEBEACHES.COM. Just let us know not to reset the board, no problem! GIVE US SECTION AND BOARD NUMBER.
Also e-mail if more boards are needed and we will respond by adding more boards as quickly as possible. Also, there is no way to resign at this point so, please,  e-mail.

PROTECT YOUR GAME

When you makes your first move, enter a password so no one can mess with your game.

Special Moves
The BeholderBoard detects and rejects attempts to make illegal moves (unlike a real chess-set). There are three times when you may make a special move: these are, specifically, castling, capturing en passant, and pawn promotion.
To indicate a castling move, move the king two squares (like a real chess-set).
To take en passant, move the capturing pawn onto the empty square behind
the captured pawn (like a real chess-set).
When a pawn qualifies for promotion, the BeholderBoard will ask you what
it wants to be.

End of Game
The BeholderBoard does NOT detect stalemate or checkmate conditions (just like a real chess-set). This is down to the players. By definition no move is legal from a checkmate position, but be aware that the BeholderBoard will, in its ignorance, allow a game to pass through a
stalemate condition without comment.

Move Notation
The move list  adheres to the internationally recognized Standard Algebraic Notation (short form).

If the BeholderBoard won't let you move because it says your password is duff and you know it isn't, suspect  CAPS LOCK.
